It was a week before Christmas Eve

and Santa was frantic

"I have so much work to do!"

And the elves? (Stuck in traffic.)

"What am I to do?"

Santa wondered aloud,

"toys still have to be made,

for that big Christmas crowd."

Mrs. Claus came in

to lend hubby a hand,

"you're not the only one

who makes toys in this land!"

So, the Claus duo went to work

making toys for us all,

while the elves, (it turns out),

had been stuck at the mall!

When they got back to 'the pole'

they saw the Claus' hard at work,

and they rolled up their sleeves

then turned with a jerk--

"Hey Santa," they yelled,

"we can take it from here.

Besides, Christmas Eve

is practically here!"

"You've got too much to do,

check that list twice,

plus brushing the reindeer,

to make them look nice."

"Alright," said Santa

as he turned towards the door

"I've got a lot to do---

the workshop is yours!"

The North Pole was a buzz

with elves making toys,

for Santa to deliver

to good girls and boys.

Santa checked his list once

then checked it again,

for there are a lot of children

who had written to him.

Christmas Eve finally came

and the elves filled the sleigh,

the reindeer looked great--

ready to get on their way.

Santa got in

and waved to the crowd,

did a last minute check

then stated out loud:

"For all of your work

I want to thank you all

but do me a favor,

no more trips to the mall!

Now it's time to make

my famous Christmas Eve ride.

You all stay here

by Mrs. Claus' side.

I thank you for making

all of the toys

this year there's so many

good girls and boys.

I take my leave now,

wish me luck on this flight.
